Activities
Troop 708 provides a monthly outdoor camping experience throughout the year, exept for the month of August. We go to summer camp at Camp Eastman, near Hamilton, Illinois. Our troop regularly participates in Camporees and other activities of the Great Rivers Council.
Funding
We collect Troop dues once a year. These are paid when you first enter the troop or at the first of the year. These dues help maintain the troop equipment, trailer and other expenses that our troop has. In addition, each campout that a Troop member attends will have a nominal fee to cover the cost of the campsite (if any) and food. We participate in the traditional Boy Scout Popcorn sale and hold other fundraisers throughout the year to benefit our troop and to add to our boys' individual scout account.
Equipment
Troop 708 provides each patrol a chuck box full of cooking equipment. The scout needs to furnish his own personal items, tent, sleeping bag and mess kit. The scout will also need to obtain a Scout Handbook. These can be purchased at a Scout Shop.
Adult leadership
Troop 708 has a large number of dedicated adult leaders. These Scouters take an active role in providing instruction for advancement requirements, skill development and merit badges. Eight Scouters have completed or are in the process of completing Wood Badge training. Still others are involved in Order of the Arrow and Silver Tomahawk honorary groups.
